What a wonderful professor and colleague. Rob was an inspiration of mine while at Fisher and could be found in the writing center helping graduate students enhance their ability and knowledge. His beaming smile would light up the room as he walked in and was infectious amongst his students in the classroom. The approach to learning that he shared was a gift. May he rest well.

Rob would often stop by my office and we would have long, interesting conversations and many laughs. He made me feel welcome in a new place. His graciousness and intelligence left me humbled. I hope his spirit understands how many people miss him and hold him in our hearts. May he truly rest in peace.

You continue to inspire me to become as much of a strong, influential, kind force such as you are. I said "are" instead of "were" because your impact is still so present in all of the people you have come across, Rob. I am still figuring out how to handle your passing, but it does make me feel slightly lighter knowing that your spirit is free. I hope you are happy and at peace.

He was one of those professors that had fully earned the title, yet it somehow felt inadequate all the same - his classes never felt like anything other than learning from a peer and friend. He was a great mentor that connected with all of his students as individuals - I was beyond lucky to take two ethics classes with him.

I had Rob as a professor in college and remember voting for him to receive an award as he always struck me as my favorite professor of all time. Words cannot do him justice, as he was a profoundly incredible and intelligent man loved by so many. He had a gift for teaching and connecting with his students that anyone would be lucky to experience. I’m so glad I got to spend the time with him that I did.

Rob was truly an amazing professor and I’m lucky to have been in his ethics class in 2014 at St. John Fisher College. His spirit will live on and his smile will be missed.

Rob was one of the few professors whose teachings stuck with me after graduating from St. John Fisher. The way he questioned the world but always had a smile on his face will always be remembered. As a business major I didn't give much thought to philosophy until attending his Ethics class. He will be greatly missed by the Fisher fam.

We have lost a beautiful soul. The comments on this page are a testament to that. However, I knew Rob myself, and am honored to have known him and to have been part of his studies and his development as a teacher and a scholar, when he was at Syracuse University. My deepest sympathy to the family. May his bright spirit remain with you forever, and may he rest in peace.

May fond memories bring you comfort in the days and years to come. I will miss Rob for a long, long time but I will take solace in remembering how much he did to help me become a better instructor.

Like so many students, I took a class with Rob, and it simply changed everything. On the first day of Indigenous Philosophy, he sat us all in a circle, no desks, and we all “Checked In” with each other. We started every class with sharing how we were feeling, opening the space to ask one another if we were okay. Rob shared that there had been times in his life where no one asked if he was okay when he needed it most – he never wanted anybody, especially the people whose lives he was involved with, to feel that way. We started every class like this. It was such a relief to know that every week, no matter what was going on, we would all have a moment to check in with ourselves and each other. In his Restorative Justice practices, he taught us to make room for everyone at the table, and that the way to every solution is always through peace.
Rob, I feel so deeply lucky to have known you and learned from someone who moved through life with love and peace as their guide for everything. You changed the way I understand teaching, caring, and what it means to be human and to always recognize the humanity in others. You were an incredible teacher, mentor, and friend. You have touched every person you met, and there are so many people who will hold your memory so close.
I will remember him so warmly, and with so much love, forever. I will carry everything he taught and shared with me throughout the rest of my life.

Rob was an incredible professor who cared deeply for his students. He was so passionate about his work and teaching/ living peace, kindness and justice. Being in your Indigenous Philosophy class changed my life. It gave me more confidence in speaking out and following my passion of teaching. I’ll never forget you and the incredible memories we shared in that class. You are so missed and your legacy will be kept alive by the students you’ve impacted.

I remember my first day of college, I didn’t know what I wanted to major in. I went to Rob’s Intro to Ethics class and Rob presented the Trolley Problem. I knew instantly that I wanted to major in philosophy and Rob became my academic advisor and mentor. Rob just had this warm and welcoming personality and you could truly sense the genuine care and enthusiasm he had for his students. I learned Rob was also an army veteran as I am too and we shared many wonderful conversations about the military and philosophy. Rob was truly an inspiration to any that had the privilege of knowing and interacting with him. I appreciate all that I learned from him. I’ll never forget you, brother.

Rob was a genuinely great person who impacted so many lives more than he realized. His infectious smile and laugh lit up a room, and his knowledge, wisdom, and outlook on life had the capability of changing how you saw the world. Rob preached kindness, acceptance, tolerance, and peace. He will be so dearly missed, but his legacy will live on through the lives he impacted. Thank you for who you were, Rob. Rob, you were the reason why I wanted to become a professor. But not just to teach, but to live by example and love life fully. I feel you walking next to me every time I step in front of a class to teach.
My life is so much brighter by getting to experience your light. I miss you my friend, colleague, mentor, dad away from home and old soul mate.
