Obituary of Patrick Wayne Fitzsimmons

Patrick (Pat) Fitzimmons May 15, 1955 - September 26, 2024

Pat lost his battle with kidney and cardiovascular disease on 9/26 - he was a true fighter!  As all who knew and loved him can attest - he was active, feisty, and fun loving!

He was predeceased by his parents, Betty McGall and Carl Fitzsimmons along with brothers Blaine & Tim Fitzsimmons.

He is survived by his siblings Butch (Jen) Fitzsimmons, Shane Fitzsimmons, Cindy (Doug) Coomber, Sheri Fitzsimmons, Joel (Amy) Fitzsimmons, Lisa (John) McHugh, Matt Fitzsimmons, sister-in-law Lynda Black (Joe Salland) and father-in-law Leonard Black  and many beloved nieces and nephews.

He leaves behind his loving wife and best friend Shelli Fitzsimmons who shared 25 years of travel and adventure with Pat - starting with a beautiful outdoor wedding at the lighthouse in Sodus Bay which will always remain a special place.  They traveled to so many amazing places together!  He also leaves his loyal Brittany and hunting partner, Sea-J and the most wonderful group of friends who have become family.

Pat loved the outdoors and spent countless days hunting - often with his loyal companion Sea-J by his side.  The highlight of his hunting experiences was the black bear he shot in Maine.  Pat and Shelli spent winters skiing and hosting holiday parties for family and friends.  Summers were enjoyed on the water - sailing, racing and activities with our friends at SBYC.

An excerpt from a beautiful original poem read at Pat and Shelli's wedding on 8/4/2000:
For people who love the wind and the water, there is a different feeling when you speak of love.  It is a feeling as deep as the deepest ocean and as pleasant as an offshore breeze.  Love to these people is as steady as time and as constant as the breaking surf.
To these people love is the gentle rocking of a sailboat on a moonlit night or the comfortable rocking while in each other's arms.  Love to them is working together to make the many tacks necessary for a happy life.  For them, Love is the special feeling of knowing the other one is there to support them if needed.

A celebration of life will be held in the spring, friends and family will be notified.  Meanwhile, for those who wish to honor Pat's memory, donations may be made to the National Kidney Foundation www.kidney.org
