Obituary of Anne B. Hartley

Anne Beveridge Hartley

Passed away peacefully on November 15, 2024.  Predeceased by husband, Paul, who died on the same date 12 years prior.  Also predeceased by her parents, Carolyn and Thomas Beveridge.  Survived by sisters, Mary Beveridge and Martha Beveridge; children, Andrew (Karen), Nora Pelish (Tom), Ed (Lilly West) and Thomas (Veronica Green); grandchildren, Sam, Abby Porter (Josh), Bronwen Pelish, Thomas Pelish III, and Lily; and dear friends Betty Pitcher and Laurie Smith.

Anne Beveridge was born in Muscatine, Iowa, on April 11, 1939.  After high school, Anne attended Vassar College and graduated with a BA.  After a year of teaching, Anne earned a master’s degree at the University of Iowa where she met and married Paul Hartley.

Paul’s career brought the growing family to Western New York where they dedicated themselves to family, music and cultural studies. Anne kept active with local music, church, book clubs and the PEO sisterhood. She loved crafts, cooking and gardening. Friends learned to never call during Metropolitan Opera broadcasts, or Iowa Hawkeyes basketball or Buffalo Bills games. Though mobility issues eventually kept her homebound, Anne took every opportunity to learn and stay connected. Her studies included history, religion, philosophy and mythology.  She treasured the souvenirs and countless memories collected during her travels. Her final thoughts were of happy family trips to Colorado, a place she revered for its culture and natural beauty.

Please join the family for a Celebration of Life at the First Presbyterian Church of East Aurora on Saturday, February 15 at noon.  In lieu of flowers, kindly consider a donation to the church,  FPC, 9 Paine Street, East Aurora, NY 14052.
