Obituary of Larry Wong

Larry (“Ming”) Wong, age 62, passed away on January 5, 2025, in Rochester, NY, after a courageous battle with gastric cancer. Larry was a beloved father, devoted husband, and a respected member of his community. During his life, he achieved numerous accomplishments as a restaurateur and entrepreneur, leaving behind a legacy of hard work, dedication, and love for his family.

Larry’s passion for his business was evident not only in his success but also in his constant drive to improve and innovate. Even in his leisure moments, his thoughts often turned to how he could better provide for his loved ones or better serve his community. Beyond his professional pursuits, Larry found joy in traveling to Asia, spending quality time with his family, and playing with his beloved dog, Dogtor Pepper.

Larry was predeceased by his father, Yik Fu Wong. He is survived by his mother, San Ma; his loving wife, Kelly; his children, Andy and Shirley (Romain Barachet); his siblings, Karen Poon (Steve Abramson) and Steve Wong (Silvia Mosher); and his nieces, Amanda Poon (Zach Kapitan) and Samantha Poon (Alex Nanneman). Larry’s extended family, and the countless friends and colleagues whose lives he touched, will forever cherish his memory.

A service to celebrate Larry’s life will be held at Jennings, Nulton & Mattle Funeral Home, located at 1704 Penfield Rd, Penfield, NY 14526, on January 18, 2025, at 8:30 a.m.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to the American Cancer Society in Larry’s honor. Contributions can be made online at www.cancer.org or by telephone by calling 1-800-227-2345. The family deeply appreciates your support and condolences during this difficult time.

In Larry’s memory, the family also encourages everyone to prioritize their health by scheduling regular cancer screenings. Early detection can make a life-saving difference.
